Mayan Mask

Students are glazing Mayan Masks that we hand-sculpted. Once glazes have been applied to the bisque-ware and have a chance to dry, the piece is carefully loaded into the kiln for the glaze firing. Pieces cannot be allowed to touch at all, or the glazes will melt together, welding them together. When the masks come out of the kiln, they will become beautiful. Some masks have many designs, and some are colourful. The masks will give all the teachers and students a wonderful surprise in the winter 2013 Art exhibition.

Ian Wallace Inspired Painting

This week our art11&12 class started a new interesting project, which was inspired by Ian Wallace paintings. The purpose of this project was helping students become more creative. At the beginning, we painted with different strips of colour on a convas by using acrylic paint. Then, we chose our own satisfied picture and glued it on the canvas.  After that, we wrote a short memory of a personal experience about "away from home", and put our sentences on the top of our paintings with colored sharpies. Later, we added 3 more strips of paint, which was a single or double complimentary colour scheme. The more crazy thing was coming! We added drips and splatters on our canvas, and it was the funniest step in our painting process. This project really inspired us to become more creative art students, and we really enjoyed it.

Funky Floral Collages

This first week, our class did a project called Funky Floral Collages. It is kind of collage that uses coloured paper, coloured tissue paper, printed design paper and painted watercolour paper to create a vase of flowers on watercolour paper. There are eight steps to do it. At first, we need to prepare wet-in-wet watercolour paper, and use ink on one side to make colourful flowers. Then, we should do the same step as the first step for background. Third, we were going to cut at least four different types of flowers and leaves from watercolour paper with ink, tissue paper and etc. After that, we could cut paper to design a vase, and glue the vase on to the light watercolour painted background. Gluing the flowers was the next step. Last but not least, it is important and necessary to add highlights with watercolour.  There are some pictures to show how we did that!

Look! The flowers they are making are beautiful.
Margarita & Alexandra cut and attached their collage papers carefully.
